Is it time to hire a Caregiver?

Is it time to hire a caregiver? So many family members ask this question about aging family members.

Things to consider when asking this question include, is my loved one safe alone? Is he or she able to handle activities of daily living? What are activities of daily living also known as ADLs?

  • Bathing, Personal Hygiene and Grooming
  • Dressing and Undressing
  • Feeding Oneself
  • Medication Administration
  • Getting in and out of bed or a favorite chair
  • Incontinence care
  • Walking – with our without a Walker or using a Wheelchair
  • Light Housekeeping
  • Meal Preparation
  • Laundry
  • Shopping
  • Doctors Appointments
  • Pet Care

If your loved one needs assistance or would be safer with help in any of these areas, it may be time for you to hire a caregiver. Your loved ones needs will dictate the level of care and the amount of care needed.

Other signs it may be time include you and your family. Are you tired or depressed? Are you in jeopardy of losing your job? Are your spouse and children suffering because of all the time you spend being the caregiver? Are you frustrated or short-tempered? If you answered yes to any of these questions, it is time to consider hiring a caregiver, if only for respite.

A Qualified Caregiver can assist you and your loved one with these activities and more. Other areas include companionship, personal errands, transportation, and technology assistance.
